Downforce takes apart the fastest machines on earth: active aerodynamics, a hybrid heart split almost evenly between fire and electricity, the circuits that test them and the records measured in thousandths of a second.

01The machine

Every surface is an argument with the air.

Smaller, lighter and cleverer. The 2026 car is the biggest reset of the rulebook in a generation. Scroll the blueprint to take it apart, one system at a time.

01First contact with the air

Active front wing

For 2026 the front wing moves. Its flaps close for maximum grip through the corners and open on the straights to shed drag, working in step with the rear wing to turn one car into two.

02The strongest part of the car

Survival cell and halo

A carbon-fibre monocoque wraps the driver, crowned by the titanium halo. It is load-tested to more than 12 tonnes, roughly the weight of a double-decker bus, and has already turned life-threatening crashes into walk-aways.

03Half fire, half lightning

Hybrid power unit

A 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 now shares the work almost equally with electric power. The MGU-K alone delivers 350 kW, close to three times its 2025 output, and the engine runs on advanced sustainable fuel.

04Where grip is born

Floor and diffuser

The underside of the car is its most powerful aerodynamic device. For 2026 the floor runs flatter with reduced ground effect, while the diffuser still accelerates the air beneath the car to pull it onto the track.

05The end of DRS

Active rear wing

Straight Mode opens the rear wing to cut drag and lift top speed, taking over the job DRS used to do. Corner Mode closes it again, restoring downforce the moment the driver needs grip.

06Four contact patches

Wheels and brakes

Eighteen-inch wheels wrap carbon brakes that run beyond 1,000°C and haul the car down from top speed with around 5g. The 2026 tyres are narrower than before, part of a leaner and lighter car.

02Active aerodynamics

Two cars in one. Every lap.

From 2026 the wings move. In corners they bite, on straights they open. Watch what the air does in each mode.

Corner Mode. Front and rear wing elements close. The car generates maximum downforce, pressing the tyres into the track through corners and braking zones.

03Power unit

Half fire. Half lightning.

The 2026 power unit splits its output almost evenly between combustion and electricity. The electric motor nearly triples in strength, and every drop of fuel is sustainable.

04Legendary circuits

Six circuits that define the sport.

Every map is drawn from real GPS survey data. A physics model then laps each one, braking, turning and accelerating the way the geometry demands.
